Today I had the opportunity to attend an instructional coaches meeting. We are just beginning a book study as we transition from being instructional specialist to instructional coaches.
As we discussed the effectiveness of professional development someone drew a visual I think captures the reality of traditional PD.
How many times have you sat in PD bored out of your mind and unengaged. I know first hand having been a teacher for 13 years that “sit and get” doesn’t work. How much PD actually transfers back into the classroom?
During a recent #educoach chat @Kathyperret posted the following tweet, “I’m a firm believer we must model strategies in PD we expect to see in the classroom.” I couldn’t have said it better myself!
